While the Community Action Plan identified a large number of avenues we will eventually tackle, we have a number of projects on which we are currently focusing.
Community Café
By far the most important thing which came out of the Community Action Plan research was that residents feel a need for a social hub in the form of a café. Our top priority is to deliver a community café which can become that hub. In the short-term, we are making use of the limited availability of Murieston Village Hall to deliver a pop-up community café. Please consider volunteering to help. In the long-term we aim to provide a custom-built community hub with a café and other facilities to meet multiple needs expressed in the Community Action Plan research.
Improvements to Village Hall
Residents wanted improvements to the Village Hall. We are working with Murieston Initiative SCIO, the charity which runs the Hall, to find ways to deliver such improvements. This will also help with the projects to deliver a community café and community events. Cleaning has been improved and we are planning other short-term improvements.
Community Events
Residents wanted more social events. We aim to deliver events at Murieston Village Hall. Please think about volunteering to help. If you’re organising a local event, tell us about it and we will try to advertise it for you. We helped organise our first social event at Murieston Village Hall in July 2024, and have started running the local community group Murieston Community Cinema, showing monthly films in the Hall.
Greening the Station
A major complaint of the area was that, since the station has been redeveloped, it has become an eyesore. Pictures of the station in 2013 (above) show what we want to return to. We are working with ScotRail to find ways to improve the station appearance. We have adopted a small section of the station grounds to begin our relationship with them. We are working on the project with Murieston Community Garden, Murieston Environmental Group, and the Rotary Club of Livingston. Please consider volunteering to help.
Community Information
We heard complaints that it was difficult to know what is going on. We have therefore developed a website which is focused on information about the area, its heritage, facilities and events and making more use of local noticeboards.
Volunteering
Residents wanted a way to get involved in volunteering. We have developed a volunteering section of our website to advertise opportunities.
